Tropical Savanna Ecotourism

Ecotourism

We believe an excellent way to spread awareness about the Serengeti is to promote environmentally friendly ecotourism in the area. This will show people how valuable this environmental sanctuary is to Africa and will convince more people to donate either their time or money to improving the park and reducing the negative human impact on it. Below we have listed ecotourism ideas for each season of the year.

Spring: Balloon Rides and/or Helicopter Rides

Both of these ideas would serve as excellent methods to view the Great Migration, a seasonal migration of herbivores. The tour would generally pass over the Mara River, as this is where tourists would have the greatest chance to see large herds of animals making the Circular Migration. The balloon and Helicopter Rides also have a small ecological footprint; they do not disturb the migrating herds by driving through them or running over the grass that they need to graze and feed from.

 Summer: Night Safari Tours

With seasonal migration changes, animals will now be found in different areas. In the summer, we can take jeep safari rides into teh heart of the Serengeti and nearly touch cheetahs, lions, and elephants. In the afternoon and passed dark, many animals become more acitve and more likely to be spotted. Tourists can spend the night at a cabin for a few days learning about the land and ways to preserve its prestine nature.

Fall: Balloon Rides and/or Helicopter Rides

Again, both ideas provide little ecological footprint as they do not run over any grasses that the herbivores need to graze on during their migration. The Mara River would again be an ideal place to fly over, as the animals are migrating from North to South during the fall. They are following the rains, so weather would be an issue for balloon rides, making helicopters a much safer alternative for light rains.

Winter: Safari Tours

With a trail rated jeep and certified tour guide, one can experience the Serengeti to its fullest out in the midst of the animals. The drivers will have pre-determined routes to follow that rotate as to not wear down certain parts of the land and not to completely disturb certain animals and natural features.
